Relay Houston, a unique, accredited graduate school, shares the entrepreneurial spirit that has made the Bayou City a hub for educational reform. Our Houston programs bring a new approach to P-12 teacher preparation, emphasizing practical, highly effective and intentional teaching methods that drive student success.
As senior dean of Relay and founding dean of Relay Houston, Chris Fraser oversees all aspects of our teacher preparation in Texas and supports the Relay dean in Denver. Most recently, Fraser taught core pedagogy and secondary social studies as part of the Relay Newark faculty, and served as a Ferguson Education Leadership Fellow in Revere Public Schools. He began his career in Texas education as a Teach For America corps member in the Houston Independent School District. After working as a senior recruitment director for TFA in Atlanta, Fraser returned to Texas to teach high school social studies at YES Prep. Fraser earned an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.S. in finance from the University of Florida.
In partnership with KIPP Houston Public Schools, Relay has launched the Teaching Residency, the first program of its kind in the Houston area. Residents teach under the guidance of a master teacher in their first year and become full-time teachers in the second year of the program. The partnership creates a robust and selective recruitment pipeline for talent and gives new teachers a gradual on-ramp to teaching.
