Our Mission and Vision

Relay Graduate School of Education’s (Relay GSE) mission is to teach K-12 teachers to develop in all students the academic skills and strength of character needed to succeed in college and life.

Our short-term vision is that our innovative curriculum and instruction — practically focused, reinforced by the proven practices of high-performing schools, and substantiated by research — will enable our graduates to lead their predominantly urban students to demonstrable annual achievement gains.

Our long-term vision is that the institution will bring about transformational change across teacher preparation and will become a place where a new generation of continuously-improving, results-focused individuals fulfill their destiny in the world’s greatest profession.

Our Approach

Our breakthrough approach emphasizes the practical, not the theoretical — giving our graduate students the opportunity to continuously model highly effective and intentional teaching methods.

Field-Tested Techniques

Our program places a strong emphasis on concrete techniques that work on “Monday morning.” In other words, what graduate students learn in their Relay GSE classroom today can be immediately put into practice in their own K-12 classrooms tomorrow.

Watch and Analyze Method

Our program utilizes video to share the proven practices of model teachers and capture graduate students on film. This watch and analyze method is results-focused, allowing graduate students to monitor their own progress, with the support and feedback from experienced faculty.

Measurable Results

Our program is the first ever to require graduate students to demonstrate proficiency and achievement in their K-12 classrooms while teaching in order to earn a degree. Graduate students who complete the two-year program must demonstrate that their students have made a minimum of a year’s worth of academic growth in a year’s time.

Our graduate students are trained by professors who themselves are champion teachers with proven track records in their own K-12 classrooms.

Relay GSE not only makes use of existing commercial technologies, but also develops advanced, proprietary learning technologies and teaching methods that facilitate and improve our program’s effectiveness.
