24-Hour Pre-Service Certificate of Eligibility Program

The 24-Hour Pre-Service Certificate of Eligibility Program for Elementary K-5, N-12 Subject Area, and Career and Technical Education CE at Relay Graduate School of Education ["Relay GSE"] offers an introduction to the teaching profession. It aims to connect potential teachers to the ancient and noble profession of teaching, and to tie policy debates about education to the work that they hope to do every day in a New Jersey classroom.

Curriculum

This program is an asynchronous online learning program, meaning that participants can start it at any time and progress through it at their own pace. The 24-hour course covers the following topics: an introduction to teaching in New Jersey, curriculum standards, assessments, lesson planning, equity, choice, professional development, and the reasons behind why great teachers teach. Through a highly interactive platform, the course offers a rich video component which allows participants to observe video of some of the very best teachers in Newark, NJ, working to close the achievement gap for their students. Participants will also be engaged through online discussion boards, rubrics, templates, videos, and readings.

Cost

The cost of the course is $200, payable by credit card on the online application page. Additionally, there is a $50.99 materials fee to access course materials, which is payable through a 3rd party provider. There is, unfortunately, no financial assistance available for this course.

Certificate of Completion

Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion, which documents their program completion. This certificate must be included in the Certificate of Eligibility application packet. The Certificate of Completion does not guarantee that students will be issued a CE from the New Jersey Department of Education. This course is just one requirement in the CE application process. You are encouraged to contact the New Jersey Department of Education to discuss the qualifications needed in order to obtain a CE before applying to this course. Relay GSE does not evaluate students’ qualifications for a CE.
