Employee Spotlight: LaResha Jola-Isiba

LaResha Jola-Isiba

What does it mean to be vice president of strategic initiatives?

It means helping people to think through their action plans to allocate resources to ensure that the right people are on the right seats in the bus in order to drive toward our priorities.

Is there a quote or mantra that guides you?

My teacher in eighth grade told me to always be a first-rate version of myself instead of a second-rate version of anybody else. That just reminds me to stay centered. It reminds me to remember that everything I have is what I need and that what I don’t yet possess, I can learn. That always brings me back to the core of who I am.

What is your favorite thing about Relay?

I have a work answer and a personal answer. In terms of the work, it’s the people, plus I get to do work every day that aligns to my best work. Where I get to solve problems, and I get to be in a lot of different spaces, whether I’m having a meeting with our tech team or we’re talking about our budget or we need to build a new curriculum. I appreciate getting to have my hands in a lot of those different boats. From a personal and lifestyle perspective, I love that it’s remote.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I have a husband and a daughter, who is eight, so I spend a lot of time outside. They love to roller skate. I have roller skates, but I’m, well, less enthusiastic about that. I like to bake and decorate sugar cookies. I like to spend time with friends and family. I'm a big football enthusiast, and I exercise, but I don’t love it. My most fulfilling passion project outside of work is personal finance coaching, where I get to work with people to reach their financial goals.
