The Relay Approach
After opening a campus in Houston in 2014, Relay Texas has expanded to Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and other surrounding areas, graduating over 600 students from every part of Texas including the metro areas, Permian Basin, El Paso, and Rio Grande Valley. The Relay Teaching Residency is the blueprint for a practice-based residency model, hosting the first residency symposium in Texas. Former Relay Texas residents are now resident advisors who are supporting and training new cohorts of residents.
Faculty
Relay has nearly 200 experienced, supportive faculty across our campuses. Here is one example of a faculty member who teaches and advises our Texas students:

“I love teaching future and new teachers because they just bring a freshness to teaching. They are excited and joyful about the teaching profession and have an unwavering love for PK-12 students. It is great taking this love, excitement, passion and freshness and centering on what really matters: equity in education of all learners. It is a tremendous honor to teach the next generation of teachers and I am lucky to be able to do this every single day.”
- Maria Faqier, Program Director for Texas
Maria Faqier is the Program Director for Texas. Before joining Relay, she served as a middle school teacher, high school teacher and high school administrator for 18 years. She holds a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Our Lady of the Lake University, a degree in teaching with a concentration in math and science from the University of the Incarnate Word, and a degree in educational administration from Texas A&M San Antonio. Additionally, she is a Texas certified educator with certification in the following areas: Composite Science 8-12, Secondary Biology 6-12, ESL 6-12, Principal EC-12 and Superintendent EC-12. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her partner, her six grown children and her six Siberian huskies. She also serves in various community partnerships including the Si Se Puede School Board and My Brother’s Keeper San Antonio.
