Relay Announces Dr. Maya Weatherton and Kari Feinberg as New Provosts

We are pleased to announce Dr. Maya Weatherton as our new Provost, Teacher Preparation, and Kari Feinberg as our new Provost, Professional Education! The positions will take effect starting July 1.

Dr. Maya Weatherton

In her upcoming role as Provost, Teacher Preparation, Dr. Weatherton will lead Relay and the Teacher Prep team to key institutional milestones, maintaining outstanding institutional performance and recognition, faculty performance and staff experience.

Dr. Weatherton brings her current experience as both a Regional Dean as well as the Dean of Relay Houston to the role. She was also the Director of Teacher Residency for Relay Houston, where she was responsible for teaching and coaching incoming teacher residents.

Before coming to Relay, Dr. Weatherton served as Principal of Foerster Elementary in the Houston Independent School District (HISD). There she dramatically turned around student performance, student and teacher attendance, and teacher morale. She did exemplary work for students in HISD for 16 years, including winning numerous awards for work as a teacher, regional curriculum specialist, assistant principal, and principal in at-risk schools.

Dr. Weatherton graduated from Paul Quinn College, earned her Masters in Educational Administration from Texas Southern University, and is part of the prestigious Rice Education Entrepreneurship Program. Dr. Weatherton recently completed her PhD in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies (HELPS).

Kari Feinberg

In her upcoming role as Provost, Professional Education, Kari Feinberg will lead Relay and the Professional Education team to significant institutional goals, delivering outstanding institutional performance and expanding access and institutional recognition.

Ms. Feinberg currently serves as the National Dean of Regional Leadership Programs at Relay. In this role, she leads Relay Leadership's current work and strategic planning efforts to provide network-embedded professional learning, coaching, and support for CAOs, principal managers, and school leaders in the areas of observation and feedback, school culture, and data driven instruction. Before joining Relay in the summer of 2017, she spent ten years with YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, Texas, most recently as the Head of Schools from 2013 to 2017. She has also worked as a school leader and teacher in Baton Rouge, La. and Durham, N.C.

Kari holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Political Science and graduate degrees in School Leadership and Public Administration from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. She continues to be Houston-based.
