Relay Advanced Certificate Teacher Spotlight: Jessica Donovan

HOW DID THE ADVANCE CERTIFICATE (ADV CERT) PROGRAM IMPACT YOUR PRACTICE?

I was in the Advanced Certificate program during the 2015-16 school year. I was teaching kindergarten and wanted to to take on more leadership at my school around special education. After getting my special education certification at Relay, I became the special education coordinator at my school, where I directly supported our kids with special needs. I am now the Dean of Special Services where I help teachers support their kids with special needs.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING THAT YOU LEARNED IN THE ADV CERT PROGRAM THAT YOU USE ON A DAILY BASIS? 

I would not be able to do the job here at my school without the Advanced Certificate program at Relay. Their hands on approach to learning was extremely helpful for me and I learned an incredible amount of strategies to use for kids that need something extra. In addition, I am writing goals for IEPs daily and I learned how to do that through Relay.

WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE ADV CERT PROGRAM?

I would recommend this program to anyone who has an interest in learning how to help kids in their classroom perform to their full potential regardless of the classification on their IEP.
